Frequently asked questions

ABA therapy FAQ: ages, insurance, ESA+, and getting started

Answers to what families in Rolesville, Wake Forest, and the greater Raleigh area ask us before they call. If your question is not here, call 919-213-1083 and ask it.

What ages do you work with?

We serve adolescents and young adults ages 7 to 21. We do not provide early intervention or services for children under seven. If you are looking for a younger child, call us anyway — we will point you toward providers who do that work.

What insurance do you accept?

Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield. We also accept NCSEAA ESA+ funds and private pay. We verify your benefits within 24 to 48 business hours of receiving your insurance information and explain what we find in plain language, including what you would owe.

What is NCSEAA ESA+, and can I use it here?

ESA+ is a North Carolina program that gives families of students with disabilities a state-funded account they can direct toward approved educational therapies. We accept ESA+ funds. For many families it is the fastest route to starting services, because there is no insurance authorization to wait on.

Do I need a diagnosis to start?

For insurance-funded services, yes — an autism spectrum disorder diagnosis, levels 1 to 3. For private pay, no diagnosis is required. Private pay is $150 per hour and works well for single-focus goals such as daily living skills, desensitization, or reinforcement systems.

How long does it take to start services?

You will hear from us within one business day. We verify benefits in 24 to 48 business hours, reach out within 72 hours to schedule, and begin the assessment within 5 to 10 business days of completed intake. Most families go from first phone call to start of care in about 30 days.

Do I have to bring my child to a clinic?

No. We do not operate a clinic. Services are delivered in your home, at your child’s school, out in the community, and by telehealth. In-home and community services cover Wake County and anywhere within 15 miles of Raleigh.

What towns do you serve?

Rolesville, Wake Forest, Raleigh, Knightdale, Wendell, Zebulon, and Youngsville, plus the rest of Wake County within 15 miles of Raleigh. Telehealth is available anywhere in North Carolina.

Do you provide services in schools?

Yes. We provide school-based services in Wake County charter and private schools, with sessions typically running 3 to 6 hours. Agreements with Wake County Public Schools are pending.

What does ABA actually look like for a teenager or young adult?

Less table-based drilling, more real situations. We work on managing a routine without a prompt for every step, handling frustration in the moment, holding a conversation with a coworker, getting through a grocery store, and having some say over your own day. Sessions happen where those skills are actually needed.

Is parent and caregiver training included?

Always. Caregiver training is built into every plan rather than sold as an add-on. A behavior plan that only works while a technician is in the room will not survive discharge. Training sessions usually run 1 to 2 hours.

How much supervision does a BCBA provide?

Supervision equal to at least 10% of every technician’s delivered hours, with a minimum of two BCBA contacts per client every month and supervision notes filed within 24 hours. Caseloads are capped at 6 to 8 clients per BCBA.

What if we are not the right fit?

We will tell you early, on the phone, rather than six weeks into an intake. We are not the right provider for anyone needing a higher level of medical or psychiatric care, or presenting a safety risk beyond what our staffing can support. If that is your situation, we will help you figure out where to go instead.

Still have a question?

Call and ask. You will reach someone who can actually answer it.
